Coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco leave stubborn stains that a standard polish struggles with. Airflow uses a fine jet of water, air and powder to lift them gently, reaching between teeth and around the gumline.
It is a quick, comfortable way to freshen a dull smile, with no whitening gel involved.

Bleeding or sore gums
Gums that bleed when you brush are the first sign of gingivitis, the early and reversible stage of gum disease. A thorough clean, plus some tailored advice, usually settles it once the trigger is removed and your home care improves.
Caught at this stage it costs you a hygiene visit; left alone it can progress to something far harder to treat.
Deep cleaning for gum disease
When gum disease has advanced to periodontitis, the gum pockets deepen and the bone that holds the teeth starts to recede. We treat it with root surface debridement, a deep clean below the gumline, then keep it stable with regular maintenance visits.
It cannot rebuild bone that is already lost, but it halts the disease and protects the teeth you still have.
More than a clean feeling
A hygiene visit removes the hardened tartar no toothbrush can shift and catches gum disease while it is still reversible, which is what keeps you away from fillings, gum recession and lost teeth later on. It is usually comfortable, and if your gums are tender we can numb the area first. You do not need a referral or to be a registered patient with us, you can book straight in with the hygienist.

A dental hygienist is a separately GDC-registered dental care professional whose remit is preventive periodontal care: detecting and treating gum disease at the earliest stage, removing the plaque and calculus that home brushing can't reach, and coaching the technique that maintains the result between visits. Hygienists work alongside the dentist (who handles examinations, restorations and any surgical work) rather than replacing them, so most patients see the hygienist in between dentist check-ups, not instead of them.

I bleed when I brush around my CM17 postcode, is it the water?
No, water hardness doesn't cause bleeding gums. Bleeding when you brush is the earliest sign of gingivitis or periodontitis; a hygiene visit removes the calculus your brush can't reach and tells you exactly which surfaces are inflamed.
Is root surface debridement painful?
It's done under local anaesthetic, so the cleaning itself is comfortable. Most patients describe the next day as similar to mild bruising; sensitivity usually settles inside a week, and any persistent issue is reviewed at your next maintenance visit.
How often should I come in?
Every six months for stable gums, every three to four months during active periodontal therapy or while we settle a high bleeding score. The interval is set per visit on your BOP and risk, never a fixed default.
Can I switch between Nuffield and Church Langley between visits?
