Composite bonding in Harlow
Single-visit composite repair across both Harlow sites, with Saturday cover at Church Langley for fresh chips that won't wait until Monday.
What composite bonding can fix in Harlow
Composite bonding builds tooth-coloured resin onto your own teeth, shaped and polished in a single visit. No drilling, no enamel removed, and nothing permanent, so it is one of the most conservative cosmetic treatments there is.

Chipped or worn edges
A chipped front tooth, or edges worn flat over the years, are rebuilt with composite resin that is colour-matched and polished so the repair blends in.
Because resin is added rather than enamel ground away, edge bonding is reversible and usually done without any anaesthetic.

Gaps between teeth
Small gaps, including a diastema between the front teeth, are closed by bonding resin onto the sides of the teeth and widening them just enough to meet.
It is a same-day alternative to aligners or veneers when a gap is the only thing you want to change.

Stains and discolouration
Where one tooth is darker than its neighbours, or marked in a way whitening will not lift, bonding masks it with a layer of shade-matched composite.
If the whole smile looks dull, we usually suggest whitening first and bonding after, so the new resin is matched to brighter teeth.

Uneven or small teeth
Teeth that are slightly small, pointed or out of line with the rest are reshaped with composite to even out the smile.
Nothing is permanently prepared, so bonding keeps your options open: you can always step up to porcelain veneers later if you decide to.
Done well, no one can tell
Good composite bonding is layered and polished to match the translucency of your own enamel, so it blends in rather than standing out. It can pick up stain from coffee, tea and red wine over time, but a polish at your hygiene visit brings the shine back, and a worn or chipped edge is simply patched rather than redone. Nothing is drilled and no healthy enamel is removed, so if you ever change your mind, your own teeth are untouched underneath.

Dr Syed and his assistant were absolutely fantastic to myself and my daughter this morning. Very kind, gentle and soothing considering I am a nervous wreck about dentist appointments. It was my daughter's first appointment and they were great with her. Lovely team!
There's no other dentist like this one. I've never liked the dentists, but what a world of difference Church Langley is. Everyone is wonderful, kind, caring, and not judgemental in any way.
Been going for about a year and a bit and I've only got good things to say. Easy to sign up when we moved into the area, and I got in through a cancellation within a few weeks.

What it coversHow composite bonding runs across our two Harlow practices
Bonding in Harlow is delivered as a single-visit procedure at either site, with the resin shade matched against your final tooth colour (whitened first if you're staging a smile-makeover), sculpted by hand and polished on the chair. The work is identical at Nuffield and Church Langley.
- Direct composite restoration in a single visit: tooth-coloured resin layered onto the tooth and shaped freehand, no temporary and no second visit. Most single-tooth bonding takes 45 to 60 minutes at either Harlow practice.
- Chipped incisors from sport, falls and A414-corridor accidents: edge fractures from rugby contact, the family weekend or cycling spills are repaired same-week with shade-matched composite layered to rebuild the lost edge, sculpted to mirror the contralateral tooth and polished on the chair.
- Bonding agent & enamel etch protocol: the surface is etched with 37% phosphoric acid for 30 seconds, rinsed, then a 5th-generation bonding agent applied and light-cured at 470 nm before composite layering, giving the mechanical-plus-chemical bond that holds 5 to 7 years before a refresh.
- Diastema closure (small midline gap): a gap between the front teeth is closed with composite added to the mesial walls of the two central incisors, rebuilding contact and altering perceived proportions without orthodontics.
- Edge bonding for worn-down dentition: patients with incisal edge wear from bruxism, parafunction or years of acidic erosion get the worn edges rebuilt with composite, restoring both smile length and front-bite stability in a single visit at either Harlow site.
- Whitening sequenced before the bonding: where you're staging whitening + bonding, the whitening course runs first (two weeks), and bonding is then shade-matched to the brightened result rather than the starting shade, so the new composite blends into the final smile, not the old one.
- Saturday same-day chip repair at Church Langley: a Saturday-morning chip from a fall or sports knock can be repaired the same day at Church Langley without waiting until Monday; Nuffield's weekday urgent slots cover same-day Monday-to-Friday repairs.
Harlow bonding FAQs
I chipped my front tooth playing rugby in Old Harlow, can I be seen today?
Same-day chip repair is usually possible at Nuffield Monday to Friday or at Church Langley on Saturdays. Call the practice nearest the chip happening, describe what's broken, and we'll triage you into the day's bonding slot.
Do I have to whiten before bonding?
No, but it's the right sequence if your current shade isn't where you want it. Bonding placed against a dim shade and then whitened later means the composite stays the original shade while the surrounding enamel brightens, leaving the bonded tooth visibly darker. Whitening first locks the target shade.
Can you fix a gap between my front teeth without aligners?
Often yes, for gaps under 2mm. We close the diastema by adding composite to the inner walls of the two central incisors, rebuilding the contact and altering the proportions. For larger gaps or crowding behind the gap, SmileAlign aligners are the better tool, and we say which before any work.
How long does bonding actually last?
Five to seven years for the original layer in a non-bruxer, before the edges start to dehydrate and absorb stain. A refresh isn't a redo: it's a 20-minute polish-plus-top-up appointment that restores the lustre. Heavy clenching, ice-biting and acidic diets shorten that window; a night guard and hygiene visit extends it.
Can I get bonding at one Harlow practice and the refresh years later at the other?
Yes. Both Harlow practices use the same composite system, so a refresh at Church Langley can be matched to bonding originally placed at Nuffield.
