A guide to common private treatments. Your exact fee depends on the clinical detail of your case and is confirmed in writing at your examination. NHS treatment is charged at the national band rates below.

NHS charges

How NHS dental charges work

NHS treatment in England is charged in three bands plus an emergency rate. Each band covers everything you need within one course of treatment. If higher-band work is needed in the same course, you pay only the higher band, never both stacked.

Urgent

Emergency care

Treatment to relieve pain, infection, or trauma, including for a knocked-out or broken tooth.

Band 1

Examination & prevention

Examination, X-rays where clinically needed, a scale and polish, and your treatment plan.

Band 2

Routine treatment

Everything in Band 1, plus fillings, root canal treatment, and extractions.

Band 3

Lab-made restorations

Everything in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, dentures, and bridges.

Band charges are set nationally by the NHS and apply identically at every NHS practice in England. We confirm the band that applies to you before treatment starts. NHS registration is not catchment-bound, so you pay the same bands wherever you previously registered.

Free NHS care

Who does not pay for NHS treatment

You do not pay for NHS dental treatment if any of the following apply. Please bring proof to your appointment. If you hold an HC3 certificate for partial help, bring it and we will apply the maximum stated.

  • Aged under 18, or under 19 and in qualifying full-time education
  • Pregnant, or have given birth in the last 12 months (with a maternity exemption certificate)
  • Receiving Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, or income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Receiving Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Receiving Universal Credit and meeting the income threshold
  • Holding a valid HC2 certificate for full help with NHS health costs
Private treatment

Private treatments we offer

Private fees cover general, preventive, restorative, and cosmetic care. Each is quoted in writing at your examination, itemised and valid for 30 days. The full fee schedule is available on request.

General & preventive

New patient consultations, routine examinations, hygienist cleaning, Airflow advanced polish, white and silver fillings, and extractions.

Crowns, bridges & veneers

All-ceramic, porcelain-bonded-to-metal, and gold crowns, plus veneers, made by a UK dental laboratory with the lab fee included.

Root canal treatment

Quoted by tooth, since molars carry more canals than front teeth. The fee includes a temporary restoration but not the final crown.

Dentures

Acrylic, flexi, and cobalt-chrome dentures. The fee includes impressions, try-in, fitting, and the first review adjustment.

Cosmetic & aligners

Professional teeth whitening and SmileAlign clear aligners, planned before anything irreversible.

Implants

Replacing the root, not just the crown. Quoted per case after assessment, with the full plan set out in writing.

Private-only

What the NHS does not cover

Some treatments are private only because the NHS contract does not extend to them. The choice is never a quality judgement: NHS care delivers excellent outcomes within its scope, while private routes give more time per appointment and a wider choice of materials.

  • Dental implants (NHS implants exist for narrow medical situations only)
  • Tooth whitening
  • Veneers and SmileAlign clear aligners
  • White fillings on back teeth (sometimes a private upgrade)
  • Airflow advanced polish
  • Sedation for anxious adult patients
Paying for treatment

Ways to pay

Card, transfer & cash

We accept all major debit and credit cards, bank transfer, and cash.

Interest-free in practice

Larger treatment plans can be split over up to 12 months, interest-free, in practice.

Insurance & finance

Direct settlement with most major UK insurers including Bupa, Denplan, and Simplyhealth, plus regulated longer-term finance for larger plans.

Questions

Fees, answered

Can I split treatment between NHS and private?

Yes. A common pattern is an NHS examination plus private cosmetic work, or an NHS filling plus a private upgrade for white composite on a back tooth.

Are the quoted fees guaranteed?

Once a written treatment plan is issued, the quoted fee is held for 30 days.

What about missed appointments?

Slots cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice attract a missed-appointment fee, set out in the booking terms you confirm when you book.

Are payment plans available?

Yes. Up to 12 months interest-free in practice, with longer-term finance through a regulated third-party provider for larger plans.

What about X-ray fees?

X-rays are included in the NHS Band 1 fee where clinically indicated. Private X-ray fees are confirmed at your appointment.

What if I cannot afford the recommended treatment?

Tell the dentist. Treatment can usually be phased over time, a more economical alternative proposed, or NHS routes used where you are eligible.
