NHS & private dental check-ups in Enfield
Routine examinations with the same clinician each visit, your chart growing rather than restarting between appointments.
What a check-up at Enfield Smiles is for
A routine examination is where problems get caught early, while they are still small and simple to fix. The same thorough check runs whether you come on the NHS or privately.

Catching problems early
Most dental problems are painless until they are advanced. A check-up finds decay, cracks, worn fillings and early gum disease while they are still small, when the fix is quick and straightforward.
Leaving them is how a tiny cavity becomes a filling, then a crown, then a root canal.

A look for the serious stuff
Every exam includes an oral cancer screening, a quick soft-tissue check of your tongue, cheeks and throat. Mouth cancer is very treatable when caught early, and a routine visit is where it gets spotted.
We also check your gums, which are the leading cause of adult tooth loss when left unwatched.

NHS or private, same exam
The examination itself is identical whichever route you choose. What changes is the appointment length and how soon you are seen, with private slots giving a little more time and choice of timing.
We are happy to see you either way and will explain any treatment in both NHS and private terms.

Bringing the children
Dental check-ups are free on the NHS for under-18s, and getting children used to the dentist early sets them up for life. We keep first visits relaxed and friendly.
Many families book their appointments together to save trips, all at Enfield Smiles on the High Street.
Children's dentistryNo lecture, just a fresh start
Plenty of people come to us after a long gap, often feeling a bit anxious or embarrassed about it. There is no judgement here. We simply take a look, tell you honestly where things stand, and put together a plan at a pace that suits you. Coming in is always better than waiting, however long it has been.

I was with hygienist Neli at this clinic. She did a deep cleaning and treated periodontal disease. I am extremely satisfied, always smiling, very attentive and caring. I highly recommend.
Michelle the receptionist is amazing and she's always so kind to me and my family. My dentist is also super kind and friendly too.
Fantastic, thanks for looking after me, even though I got to my appointment late.

What it coversWhat an Enfield Smiles dental check-up actually includes
A check-up at Enfield Smiles is a complete diagnostic visit — not a glance and a polish. The examination is the same whether you choose the NHS or private route; what differs is appointment length and how soon you're seen.
- Comprehensive oral examination — every tooth checked visually and tactically for caries, fractures, wear and the condition of existing fillings or crowns.
- Basic Periodontal Examination (BPE) — six-sextant probing-depth scoring for gum disease risk, with onward referral to hygiene treatment if needed.
- Oral cancer screening — extra-oral check of lymph nodes and TMJ joint, intra-oral inspection of tongue lateral borders, floor of mouth and oropharynx, which the Oral Health Foundation highlights as the single most valuable part of any routine review.
- Bitewing radiographs when clinically indicated — typically 18 to 24 months between sets, taken on low-dose digital sensors for interproximal caries detection.
- Occlusal & bite review — checking for signs of tooth wear, parafunction (clenching, grinding) or restorations that have shifted out of harmony.
- Written treatment plan — an FP17DC if NHS, or an itemised private estimate, with everything quoted before any treatment is booked.
- Risk-based recall interval set per NICE CG19 — between three and 24 months, never a default for everyone.
Enfield check-up FAQs
Can I register with Enfield Smiles if my last dentist was elsewhere?
Yes. NHS dental registration in England isn't catchment-bound, so you can join us whether your previous practice was in Enfield, north London or further afield. Call 020 8804 4320 and reception will get you on the list.
What's the closest station and which buses stop nearby?
The rail station is a 6-minute walk; the High Street is served by London buses 121, 191, 491 and W8. There's pay-and-display parking on Lincoln Road if you prefer to drive.
Can I get an appointment before work?
Yes — Enfield Smiles opens 8:30am weekdays, so a pre-9 appointment is usually possible by booking a few days ahead.
I haven't seen a dentist in years — do I get judged?
No. About a quarter of new patients haven't been seen in two years or more. The first visit can be just a chat and examination, with a paced plan if there's work to catch up on.
Are my children seen free?
Yes — NHS dental care is free for under-18s (and under-19s in full-time education). Most child examinations are 15-minute slots so they're seen quickly and without fuss.
How do you decide when I should come back?
We follow NICE CG19 — your recall interval is set on individual risk, anywhere from three to 24 months. It's reviewed every visit, not fixed by default.
