Dental implants in Harlow
A two-site implant pathway built around the surgical chair at Nuffield and prosthetic work at either Harlow practice.
Ways we replace a missing tooth in Harlow
Which route suits you comes down to how many teeth are missing and the bone you have. We confirm it at the consultation, in writing.

A single missing tooth
A single dental implant replaces one missing tooth from the root up. A small titanium fixture is placed in the jaw and left to fuse with the bone, a process called osseointegration, then finished with an abutment and a colour-matched crown.
Nothing rests on or files down the healthy teeth either side, the way a bridge or denture would. It looks, bites and holds up like the tooth you lost, and a well-maintained implant can last for decades.

Several teeth in a row
When several teeth are missing in a row, two or more implants can carry an implant-supported bridge across the gap. It is fixed in place, so you eat and clean around it like your own teeth.
This avoids cutting down the healthy teeth either side that a traditional bridge relies on for support. Replacing the roots, not just the visible crowns, also helps slow the jawbone loss that follows missing teeth, and we map the full span on a 3D CBCT scan first.
Compare with a bridge
A full upper or lower set
For a whole upper or lower jaw, four implants can support a fixed full-arch bridge, the All-on-4 approach, with a temporary set of teeth fitted on the day of surgery. It is the stable alternative to a loose, removable denture: nothing slips when you eat or speak, and there is no plastic plate over the roof of your mouth.
For some patients an implant-retained denture that clips onto a couple of implants is a simpler, gentler route to the same security. Which one suits you depends on your bone and your bite, confirmed at the consultation.

Not enough bone yet
Years with a missing tooth let the jawbone shrink, and sometimes there is not enough left to hold an implant straight away. A bone graft rebuilds the ridge, or a sinus lift adds height in the upper back jaw, so the implant has solid bone to anchor into.
A CBCT 3D scan shows exactly how much bone you have and whether grafting is needed, and anything extra is quoted up front rather than sprung on you later. Being told elsewhere that you do not have enough bone rarely means an implant is off the table.
Most people are, and a scan tells us for certain
Missing bone, smoking, or a gap you left years ago rarely rules a dental implant out, it just shapes the plan. A CBCT 3D scan at your Harlow consultation shows exactly what's possible, and if an implant isn't the right tooth-replacement for you we'll say so and walk you through a bridge or denture instead. The placement is done under local anaesthetic, no different from a filling, and you leave with a written plan and a clear price before anything begins.
Book a Harlow implant assessmentWhat our patients say
Dr Syed and his assistant were absolutely fantastic to myself and my daughter this morning. Very kind, gentle and soothing considering I am a nervous wreck about dentist appointments. It was my daughter's first appointment and they were great with her. Lovely team!
There's no other dentist like this one. I've never liked the dentists, but what a world of difference Church Langley is. Everyone is wonderful, kind, caring, and not judgemental in any way.
Been going for about a year and a bit and I've only got good things to say. Easy to sign up when we moved into the area, and I got in through a cancellation within a few weeks.

What it coversHow implant treatment runs across our two Harlow practices
Implant placement is delivered across both Harlow sites, with one continuous treatment plan moving between Nuffield's larger surgical chairs and Church Langley's prosthetic slots. The fixture system and clinical protocol are identical at both.
- Single-tooth implant: ITI Straumann titanium fixture placed under local anaesthetic at Nuffield, with a healing abutment fitted at the same visit; restored once osseointegration is confirmed.
- Osseointegration review on the soonest Harlow slot: the stability check can be at whichever Harlow practice fits your week, Nuffield weekdays or Church Langley Saturdays, with the same dentist available in both diaries for case continuity.
- All-on-4 full-arch rehabilitation: four implants supporting a fixed full-arch prosthesis for an upper or lower jaw nearing terminal dentition; placement at Nuffield where the surgical chair time is longer, with same-day provisional teeth fitted before you leave.
- Bone grafting & sinus lift: where the alveolar ridge has resorbed past the threshold for standard placement, augmentation is done at Nuffield first; the implant goes in once the graft has matured. CBCT before and after is included in the package.
- Continuity across both Harlow sites: the same surgical team and clinical protocol at Nuffield and Church Langley, so a follow-up review can be booked at whichever practice fits your week.
- Princess Alexandra Hospital escalation pathway: complex maxillofacial cases or patients requiring IV sedation are referred direct to PAH oral & maxillofacial service with a written same-day handover, rather than bounced through NHS 111.
- 10-year survival above 95% under maintenance: long-term ITI data shows over 95% single-tooth survival at ten years in healthy bone, conditional on peri-implant maintenance. Routine cleaning at our Harlow hygiene appointments uses titanium-safe scaler tips for this reason.
Harlow implant FAQs
Does Nuffield or Church Langley handle the surgical placement?
Nuffield holds the longer surgical chair slots and the CBCT scanner, so most placements happen there. Healing reviews and prosthetic fittings can be at either practice; Church Langley's Saturday slots cover working-week diaries for the post-op phase.
What happens if my case needs IV sedation?
Yes, we can arrange for this if required.
How does Harlow All-on-4 compare to All-on-6?
All-on-4 places four angled implants per arch and is suitable for most patients with adequate posterior bone; All-on-6 distributes the load across six fixtures and is preferred where bone in the anterior is less dense. CBCT planning decides which protocol suits your specific bone map, and the fixed price changes accordingly.
